A crown is commonly known as ‘cap’ that is placed over a tooth for following reasons:
- To protect tooth structure after root canal treatment.
- To protect displacement or fracture whenever there is large restoration/ filling.
- Cap over an Implant. (Implants are discussed in detailed in implant section.)
- Cover a discolored or poorly shaped tooth.
- Aesthetics and smile designing.
